I just wrote in the comments section on a previous post about the fact that I often feel a bit odd putting affiliate links on to tools that I mention. I haven’t got it in me not to as it does make me a little bit of money here from time to time. But I don’t want to feel like an IM product pimp, but money is money. Ah, the dilemma.

But the truth is that I only talk about products that I actually use, and in comparison to many other people that make good money in this game I use very few. All that I use is on my tools to succeed page, and use them I do, although I don’t use free traffic system much now as it takes too much time. And very oddly this totally free way to get backlinks is the one that has been used the least by you lot too.

Anyway, I know many people wonder about the benefits of paid tools or paying someone for backlink submissions, see the video on the sidebar for a paid opinion on Backlinks Philippines πŸ˜‰

So, I talked not so long ago about how to make $1000 in 30 days. It was about going after tough terms and ranking well for them. And I have to be honest and say that doing it all manually may just have you sweating blood as well as tears. I have kept up my end of the bargain and did a ton of postrunners for a new term. I used backlinks philippines and backlinks solutions and am now using Build my Rank, which I am loving so far. But will review in a month or so.

Now, not so long ago I would be scared stiff by all this mention of stuff that you have to pay for. And I know many reading will be feeling the same. But the truth is that I am now averaging $50 or $60 a day extra from my new keyword, and that has happened in under a month. I haven’t even had to do half of what I mentioned we may need to do in the post about making the extra $1000. So, the Postrunner, Philippines and other services are more than paid for from a few days of earnings for the new keywords. And they are also used for countless other terms and projects.

Worth the money?

You betcha baby.

I talk quite often with someone online who I think I mentioned a while back. He said that he would have joined Postrunner ages ago if I had told him how good this part of the Keyword Academy was. I thought I had. But I guess it is hard to really show people what you mean when you don’t want to come across as an affiliate product earning pimpster.

I really do want to just tell it like it is here. I tell you all exactly what I do to make money and not many other so called “Make Money” do. The site take s up lots of time, Google hates it because of the subject matter, yet I really do enjoy this site very much, and I love the way the comments section has turned in to a major forum in its own right. Leave tips and tricks for others there when you have them, they don 0t have to be about the post they are on.

What I want to make clear is that all the stuff I use I really do recommend. Affiliate links or not, check them out. Heck, most let you cancel if you don’t like them anyway, so there is not much to lose. I just want to tell you that ways to get links quicker really does make such a big difference to how you earn, and how quickly you earn too.

But don’t think you need any tools. You can do it all manually and still get there, it just takes longer is all.

Birthday Time

It is just about 2 years now since my Wife left me to go to the UK to work for 3 months as we had zero money. She came back with little over $1500 dollars that we managed to live on for months and months. While she was away I began to take my first steps to learning this game. I did not know what a blog was 2 years ago.

A made so many daft mistakes it was not even funny. I did stupid things until I found Griz and then it all fell in to place and now I wonder how I could not have known the stuff I do now. But that is the learning curve. A year ago we had no money, none. And I mean none. We had debts and had to count pennies for fuel to go buy some potatoes and rice. We even gave up drinking wine. Yeas, it was that bad πŸ˜‰

But the last year has been a miracle. Sites have aged, we have learned what to do, and we have taken it seriously. Well, until 5 then it is time to chill.

What I want to really get across is that if you really want to make serious money then invest some of what you earn. It may be joining The Keyword Academy to use postrunner, or it may be using Backlinks Philippines. But I can tell you now that getting serious about this game and working hard and efficiently really does pay off. And quickly.

Forward a year to today. We were talking about the money we had in the bank yesterday. I was off my about XXXXX (sorry, changed my mind on spilling the beans, but it was a lot of thousands, a lot).

I thought we had less than we did. I feel a little worried that in such a short space of time I have become so blase about money and how much we have. It is TOO WEIRD. To go from serious debt, well for me anyway, I had never been in debt in my life before, to having more than you actually know what to do with. We will buy a small coastal property in a year or two I think.

Bottom line?

Spending a little was the best thing I could have done. Try out a few services, maybe even outsource writing, although I don’t, but look at ways to be more productive with your time and to get them backlinks as quick as you can and from good places.

I don’t write this to make commission from you, and is why it is the one post where I have no affiliate links (poor me).

I do it because I know that if you follow posts I wrote like the one linked to above then you can make a real difference to your finances in a very short space of time.Spinning an article saves you so much time and gets you so many links it is not even fair.

I do n0t claim to be an expert on anything. Apart from knowing that getting on with what you do know is the best way. I know many struggle with work hours, kids, Donkey riding lessons, HAVING to read crap on forums, playing HALO (a game I am told?) and Eastenders 4 times a week, but find the time to do the work.

Content 1 minute, backlinks 9 minutes.

Work on that ratio of content to link building time and you will be as rich as you want to be in a year or two. And this comes form a guy who found out what a blog was 2 years ago this month. Who found out how to make an anchored backlink a lot more recently than that. Who realized that product posts are the easiest way to make commissions even more recently than that.

And who found out that writing stupid ass long posts around the theme of making money online is the best way to sink a load of time in to not making money, especially when you have to write posts with no affiliate product links in them just so you do n0t feel all pimped out and gangsta like.

Ta ta.

  1. Is this site a time waster? For you, yes……For me, HELL NO!

    I have to be honest with you….I spent 4 – 6 years in college (I had a lot of fun), then another 2 completing even more required school work, sold time (100+ hours a week) to a Big 4 accounting firm for 4 years to complete my license, when I should have hunkered down like you and your lady did. I can promise you my life would be much different now if I did.

    As such, I have been following your plans….I have been busting my hump on my sites….I will make it work; although it may take more than 2 years.

    One service that MUST be used, at least by me, is Backlink Philippines. I am stunned at how well these links work, and for the cost it is an absolute no brainer.

    If you have an few extra bucks then spend it on tools that make you more productive….it really does pay off. But the bottom line is that you have to put the work in.

    There is absolutely no reason to spend another dime on an ebook or anything else to make a living on the internet. Read every post on this site, and then read them again, and when you think you are tired of reading them….read them again. You will have MORE than enough knowledge to do well.

    But the work has to be put in. I am not even sure you have to be the working maniac Dave is to do well, but you do have to put the work in.

  6. Dave,

    The one sentence that I hope everyone takes to heart is where you say “Spinning an article saves you so much time and gets you so many links it is not even fair.” I know there are those who think spinning is black hat stuff and should never be done. But if done properly you can get 100 articles out of one and you just cannot make up that kind of time. A good spin reads as well as a rewritten article and no one would ever guess it has been spun. But it takes time to do this. For anyone who cares, here is what I do and is is working great:

    1. write an article
    2. rewrite each sentence two more times within your spin program.
    3. go through the entire article, (now as long as 3 articles) and spin any long phrase you can.
    4. go back again ans spin shorter , 2 or 3 word phrases.
    5. spin individual words as much as you can.

    Once you are comfortable spinning you can combine the last 3 steps and do them all at once. The important thing is you think through each phrase and sentence as you go so you know they will work and sound normal.

    If you do all that and use phrases and words that make sense, you will have a good spin. For a 400 word article this takes me anywhere from 3 to 5 hours. It s not my favorite thing, but when done you have many more articles than you could have written in the same time.

    If all you do is buy a spin program and use the automated features you will produce unreadable garbage. If you spin correctly you can really build up your linking efforts with no additional cost, other than the cost of the spin program of course. but that is just a one time thing.

    Hope this helps someone out there.

    @John,

    Thanks John, those are some very good tips for anyone new to a spin tool. You can do it much quicker once you get he hang of it.

    Personally I just go through every word with a spin tool (MAR) and change as many as possible. It seems to work well but I am sure I would get even better results if I took more time over it.

  7. Thanks John for your advice on spinning. I too have been spending ages getting the article ready for spinning and I was wondering if it was really necessary. Good to know I’m not alone

  8. Happy birthday and do buy a new washer. I brought an expensive US-made machine with me when I moved here and it was nothing buy a pain for two years when it finally (mercifully) died. Gave it to the junk boy for whatever scrap value he could get out of all that tin and bought the usual native $80 plastic Chinese (or, if you are high class like me, Korean) machine which now does the clothes much faster on less water and ought to last way more than its predecessor. When it dies, I’ll just buy another and keep on back linking πŸ˜‰

  9. Happy Birthday Dave & Wifey!
    And farewell o’ trusty washing machine.

  10. That’s one reason I gave the Sears-Kenmore to the ‘bote boy’ (do the call the junk collectors the same in your neck of the woords? We still have a lot of the Spanish over seeer’s language still; hanging on here.)

    I even called a local guy who was reputed to be able to fix washing machines. Found the wiring diagram that came packed inside the machine when it was new, lent him some screwdrivers, a flashlight and a test meter … but smoke came out of the “patient” after only a few minutes of testing. Never mind, fellows, the meter is worth more than a new plastic LG machine as well … even if I never use it, it just sits in the storage cabinet and frightens electronic gremlins away. I drank a few cervesas and decided upon which store to visit for the new machine.

    There were wires inside that machine than most of your ‘money sites’ have back links … and that’s a lot πŸ˜‰

    Hey Andy we usually give them a week or two, with other links first, but honestly that is just being paranoid.

    They still seem to end up jumping about a week or 2 after the BP links, we then carry on with postrunners etc and they come back really strong.

  14. Do you use a spinner to create articles to post on Build my Rank and PostRunner?

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Jack,

    Nope, original only, and I am guessing this is why they don’t get overrun with too much content. BMR especially has a nice set up where all new posts we have done are on the homepage for a good few days getting more juice.

  15. Dave,

    Im sure you have touched on this subject before and I apologize if I have missed it. But how exactly are you using Backlink Philippines. Are you sending links to the homepage of a site or only to the post pages. Also when you send links to a site do you send them to more than one post at a time. Its my understanding that you can send links to 5 different urls using their service. So are you targeting five different URLs on one site or targeting multiple sites. Thanks for your time.

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Sarge,

    mostly all 5 links go to post pages, I never much link to the home page, they will rank as time goes by because of inner post links.

    So, yeah, 5 keywords to 5 posts works very well indeed.

  16. Happy belated Birthday Dave! πŸ™‚

    …I just had to drop by and say that some IM tools are definitely worth purchasing…and without a doubt, MAR & MAS and RankTracker are tools that I can’t do keyword research, spin articles and build backlinks without.

    Thanks, much appreciated. I just used MAS again yesterday for the first time in months, it does send out a lot of articles so they must count for something.

    Have you got any results just using MAS? I haven’t used it exclusively so don’t have any real evidence if the backlinks are worth much now, article sites seem to be devalued a lot lately.

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1Yolanda @ Paidin Passive.com Reply:

    Dave,

    I’ve actually had really good success using MAS…and not just on the backlinks side of things. For example, for one of my niche beauty websites, I was actually receiving human traffic from the resource box on this rather obsure article directory that I didn’t even know people visited.

    Also, every website that I ran the software on, I didn’t actually point those links at a 2nd tier property…I pointed them directly at my money site (with alternate keywords as the anchor text of course) and despite would “guru” wisdom would say, I wasn’t penalized.

    (…I also didn’t mass submit them in one day either.)

    Anyways, I said all that to say…all of my websites that had article directory submissions from MAS survived Google Mayday. …so they didn’t devalue my websites one bit. πŸ™‚

  20. Hey Dave, happy belated birthday.

    Question. What affiliate program do you mainly use? Adsense? If you use other ones such as clickbank or CJ, are there things you look for to determine which affiliate program you will use? Such as EPC, network earnings, %, etc.?

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Private,

    Our Adsense is about $30/$40 a day as we have basically stopped doing it and never now write content for it.

    We use CJ and Amazon mostly. Basically I would always go for Amazon if you can as they have so many items that people often buy other stuff too.

    But I don’t worry about what the networks say the stats are, it is just about whether or not you think that you can sell it.

    And I gave up on clickbank a long time ago, just not my thing at all.

    @Dave, Sorry, I meant Amazon, not adsense. Thanks for the reply.

  21. “Try out a few services, maybe even outsource writing, although I don’t.”

    I don’t get that. Why do people not outsource more?

    As I am getting to be in a little more comfortable position with my finances, I intend to spend more of it on, say, BLPhilly to get lots of links in a short while with not a lot of effort.

    BK, the big earner from Ben’s forum, has stated numerous times that you have to leverage your leverage. I think it’s quite clear what he means: automate as much as possible.

    When outsourcing writing, you quickly get to the point where your own additional writings don’t add a whole lot more to your total empire anymore. Why even bother to write yourself? Why not simply outsource everything and concentrate solely on running your organisation?

    I am kicking around this idea of writing content for my own sites solely and outsourcing the writing work, or maybe even the backlinking work completely (this is what BLPhilly does, essentially).

    Think of the vast network that you could set up like that!

    A few more months and I’ll be in the position where I can do this and feel comfortable with it.

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1All Is Well Reply:

    @Blackthorne,
    I do job. So, i need automation. I am trying things as if now. My strategy to earn money from. Long tail keywords from authority sites right now.
    Later i will going for moderate competition and the very high.

    When i drop post title which has less then 1,00,000 pages on Google. I am able to rank for almost every time on first page. So, this shitty keywords which has no advertisers on Google will send you some traffic always. When your blog will become older and older. You can target more difficult things.

    Last month, i got 400 clicks on single blog. Which made me $5. But this is really successful strategy from my point of view. More long tail content more will be the traffic and more earning. So, i started outsourcing.

    This is much more hectic and hard work initially. Because i am building powerful blogs 1000s pages indexed on google.

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @All Is Well,

    Surely 400 clicks should be more like at least $40 earnings or so? Especially if we are talking adsense? And that would be low wouldn’t it?

    It could be that low for product clicks if you had a low conversion rate but even then I would expect more.

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1Wishal Reply:

    @Dave, AdSense can be a bummer when it comes to some niches. Got a niche that pays about $13 for 2000 visitors. Can’t put Amazon on it or anything though.

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Wishal,

    My best adsense does about $10 a day for 90 visitors. Some days it does $2 but mostly it does good. But I also put Amazon and another aff link on it too to test and it makes no difference to the adsense plus I get odd sales.

    But without adsense and just aff links I got the same number of sales. Go figure?

    Oh, and I have an adsense site that makes about 5 cents a day with 100 targeted uniques a day. I even put the exact product they were looking for, and it is less than $10 to buy and no one ever does!!

    A failure to say the least.

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1All Is Well Reply:

    @Dave, It is lowest. No advertisers. I targeted intentionally long tails, because i wanted to know. Where they will rank if i target them on new blog without giving many links back.

    My single hub make more money every second day. But still I am thinking from long term. Here i only have 15 articles…

    500 articles for less then 1,00,000pages indexed. And later give some anchored links to each of them. This will surely do some wonders. My target is to make $300-$500 per month from this blog.

    because my 15 articles is bring every day…some long tails which no body can think. so, 500 articles will bring easily 5000 long tail keywords surely. and later will be target for profitable keyword.

    Like if i write about avast antivirus review for long tail. if there is bullguard antivirus mentioned in my article. Then same avast article will rank for the bullguard “same keyword behind” without posting bullguard review with keyword.

    Also i learned the beauty of social bookmarking.

    -1 Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @All Is Well,

    Sounds like you have a definite plan there Dude.

    I would just say to do your backlinking as you publish the content or you will have a large job to do.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Blackthorne,

    Personally I don’t think outsourcing my content writing is worth it. I can write a 300 or 400 word fast, maybe 10 minutes. The time is taken with adding affiliate links and spell checking. I would have to do that anyway so I don’t think it would be worth it.

    But I do want to automate link building more. I just need to set up a game plan.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Blackthorne Reply:

    @Dave, I write my articles with allcaps words that I will later replace with links.

    Example sentence of paragraph 1 in article 1:

    If you want to be cool, you’d better start wearing WHITESPORTSSOCKS. If you don’t, you’re totally lame.

    Example sentence of paragraph 2 in article 1:

    Personally, I prefer the PAIROFSOCKS because they are made of this great material that attracts the ladies like flies on shit.

    So in the end I will have dozens of articles, each of which have 1 occurrence of WHITESPORTSSOCKS and PAIROFSOCKS.

    Then all I have to do, is work in a bunch of links that I’ve set up in advance like so:

    WHITESPORTSSOCKS links:

    cheap white sports socks
    affordable white sports socks
    low priced white sports socks
    etc.

    PAIROFSOCKS links:

    adidas sports socks
    jaguar sports socks
    nike sports socks

    Pasting in the links becomes a piece of cake.

    Especially if you use Notepad++, in which you can have tabbed files and go to the next one with a mouse sidebutton click.

    For extra speed you’ll also need a keyboard with macro keys, so you can program often used things such as CTRL-C and CTRL-V to it.

    You could instruct an outsource writer to write with allcaps tokens in it. I think it very well might work.

    And if you’ve got money like you do, Dave, then you HAVE to let your money work for you. You just have to.

    So, anyone want to work for $10 an hour? How much would you actually pay someone? If someone worked for me I would want about 8 300 word articles an hour. Or at least 12 150 word articles. If that is unique content then I will give you $10 a day 5 days a week. Payment after a week and not before.

    On second thoughts I am getting stressed even thinking of doing that? What if I don’t like the content? I would have to read it. I will be giving my keywords away, people will forget, make excuses etc. I just don’t know.

    I wonder who has a real positive experience outsourcing actual content?

    @Dave,

    I only have 3 positive experiences out of maybe 15 with outsourcing…and these positive experiences were due it part to the fact that I was paying a rate 3x that of what most IM’ers expect their writers to work for.

    In the end, however, that caliber of writing was no longer needed on my end — and one of my writers went back to working a 9 to 5 — so I was left to work with writers who suddenly had mysterious illnesses popping up, deaths in the family, etc, etc…

    I want to outsource my content again — just the initial article creation while I do the re-writing/spinning — but having to deal with needing content at a specific turnaround time, style of voice, etc is not worth the hassle anymore.

    …I just go it alone now. …oh and with the help of DNS too so that I can at least pump articles out in about 5 minutes… πŸ™‚

    @Yolanda @ Paid in Passive.com,

    I think it really does sound like a lot of hassle. As I said to All Is Well I don’t actually mind the work as it is the Job we do now.

    Do you think it actually paid off time saving wise with the outsourcing Yolanda? All that searching and checking content, I do wonder if it actually does save any work time.

    I am all for outsourcing backlinks or using systems like Backlink Solutions, I guess that is outsourcing of sorts.

    You make a good point about the style of writing. If we have a niche where the copy converts can a writer do the same? I really do wonder.

    And like you say, articles can be done very quickly. I really am in 2 minds about it all.

    Luckily for me I am already part of a team. I guess the fact that me and the Wife work together at this (she is nailing me this month for Amazon by the way, $6K already for her) is like having paid staff. We can duplicate sites that work, we can double up on keywords, and we can give each other links now we have reseller hosting and the like. And get 4 front page listings between us.

    I guess that makes a big difference to rankings and results rather than going it alone. We kind of act as each others paid assistant, and make a damn good team.

    I still can’t get a picture of you using DNS and talking about how great white socks are out of my head πŸ˜‰

    @Dave,

    I know this is an old topic, but I’ve had excellent luck outsourcing for BuildMyRank. I only pay $0.50 an article. I never read them and they always get accepted. It is a way better price than paying BuildMyRank to do it.

    I find article writers on oDesk where you can post a job listing for free. Most of the writers aren’t good enough for PostRunner without some editing, but some are. I pay $1 per PostRunner article. I’ve even found a few gems that write well enough for my sites.

    Here is the guide I use to hire:

    It has really allowed me to leverage my business. It is something you and the wifey might want to think about for when you get your Thai island.

    @L Brown,

    I am on it. We now have some outsourcing done and we are going to step it up in the new year a lot. The dream is to get nearly all backlink work done and just write more content.

    That was a good read, cheers, and you are getting some great prices too, nice one.

    @Dave, You can check mikes blog…
    http://mikeiser.com/day-496-a-look-at-my-adsense-income-increase-shopping-next-to-tiff

    I can provide you 10, 150 words every day. Even lot more. can be used as backlinks. small support blogs as you wish. If you want drop me list of articles to be done. I will ask my writer about that. Should be atleast 20. So, that i will ask them to write in single day.

    I had sweet and bitter experience. But one thing i learned is.. you have to give proper instructions for articles.

    Out of 7 writers.
    Most of them will write articles for $4 for 500 words. I gave amazon products to one guy. He don’t want to write those now. I don’t like much. So, i give some tech articles to be reviewed. He has two more friend which is also not very much res
    Another guy i wanted him to write for me. He is not taking any. He wants more money. $3 and above.
    Next one is female, i still trying to get some thing. She is best she wrote simple mobile review 150 words today. I hope she will be regular.
    Next two other guy. Who can provide me some thing.

    @All Is Well,

    Interesting read but totally against my philosophy, i.e having so many sites.

    I think having hundreds of sites with adsense on is asking for a crash and burn scenario. But then I suck at adsense so don’t listen to me πŸ˜‰

    This is the problem I see with outsourcing content, it just sounds like so much hassle. I just feel I would spend the same amount of time chasing deadlines and reading the copy.

    The thing is that I know that I write content that converts, it is not brain surgery but I would worry if it was others writing it.

    I also don’t really mind doing the work. It is odd but this is my job.

    Me and the wife site opposite each other, do our thang, have a chat, drink lots of coffe, smoke too many cigarettes, make sweet love in the afternoon, um, discuss backlinking strategies, and it is just what we do now.

    If we don’t get to $30,000 a month in a year then I may just outsource the whole lot, but it would be via a project manager who would just do the whole business, I think that would be a better solution.

    @Dave,
    Glad I’m not the only one to feel that way about ousourcing. I’ve never liked the idea of hiring someone, and reading that huge thread on the TKA forums where people talk about their experiences with hiring writers put me off even more.

    I’d like to try outsourcing some of my Postrunner articles & rewrites when I can afford it, but would prefer to use the Content Authority or a similar service. It might cost more, but the hassles would be a lot less.

    As for my own sites, I’d rather write the content myself, and set them apart from the crowds of IMers who are churning out outsourced cookie cutter content. Quality over quantity!

    Vote -1 Vote +1Blackthorne Reply:

    @Dave, You already gave your keywords away by using BankLinkPhilly.

    You don’t have to like the content, because IM articles are supposed to be rambling pieces of shit.

  22. hey Dave!

    can you tell me please how does this postrunner thingy work exactly? What am I supposed to write and why can’t I just spin it(not some crappy spin but a quality one.)?(you’ve it said earlier that 1 can be written in 9 mins or something)

    Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Mat,

    It’s part of the keyword academy. Basically there are hundreds of blogs from members where you write 300 words with a few links in to get backlinks.

    Simple as that. No spun content as they are often personal blogs, plus it simply stops them from getting totally overrun with content.

    Sign up and check it out, it is free for the first month anyway.

  23. I am not sure where to ask this but this looks like as good of a place as any. I have a few sites, doing better and making more sales but on at least one of these sites I have always thought there was an issue with the links to Amazon. It seems as though I should be getting more clicks to Amazon. I have had Amazon take a look at it and they think everything is fine.

    Well about a week ago a nephew of mine who knew about one of my sites goes to the site, looks at it, and then clicks one of the links to go to Amazon. Once he is there he looks around and ends up buying two books he needs for school. I had no idea he was going to buy through my link but I am glad he did.

    Now here is where things get interesting. He bought the two books in ONE order. I actually found out about this when my sister told me a couple of days later because I was mentioning that someone bought a medical book and I have no sites about that at all and it was interesting to see what people buy once they get to Amazon.

    ***By the way for people just getting started with Amazon…that is one of the GREAT things in being an Amazon affiliate…once people get to Amazon through your link it is amazing the things they buy that have NOTHING to do with how they got to your site or to Amazon. The holidays could be interesting.***

    Ok now back to the story…..

    …Well she said it was her son, my nephew, and he bought TWO books. Well Amazon is only crediting me with ONE sale. Not two sales. It has been confirmed with my nephew that he bought two books in one order….what do I do?? I am not so concerned with the small commission but more concerned with what I might be losing if I am not credited properly.

    Should I go straight to Amazon and question them or what?

    Vote -1 Vote +1Blackthorne Reply:

    @Todd, Ofcourse you should approach them. Nobody here can help you with this. Just ask Amazon nicely.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Todd,

    First I know it is daft but are you looking at sales and not commissions?

    But really I would contact them. But you may find that you won’t then get any sale as it is a family member. I guess if you tell them the story you may not get commissions as it would be seen as gaming the system for a commission as it was family. Although it does sound like an honest buy.

    This is always the problem with affiliate sales, you just never know. But I would never think Amazon would ever do this on purpose, they are too big a company with too popular an affiliate system to ever try to withhold sales.

    Maybe contact them just for your own peace of mind though.

  24. It’s Christmas time…soon.

    This is my first year of Amazon affiliates. For the more experienced IMers, what sort of earnings multiplier do you see in the run up to Christmas? Is double a normal month too much to expect? I rememeber Dave saying he starts to see “Christmas sales” as early as October.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Andy,

    Some food for thought. A site I started in Oct 2009 took $2500 up to the end of the year.

    This year up until today it has made about $800.

    With it being a year older I get the feeling this could be a good year. It is definitely a niche that people buy more at Christmas time and it does go dead for the rest of the year but for any gift type stuff you will see a very big jump beginning soon and it gets better right up until very near to the last shipping dates for Chrimbo.

    Anyone else’s experiences would be of real interest.

    It really will depend on the niche though and if people will be searching for it at Chrimbo time.

  25. Hi Dave,

    how quick do you find the backlink philippines take to index in google? I did a 40 link run the other day and none of them are indexed yet. Being low level links i’m guessing they’ll take a few weeks, which could mean I could go a little harder without fear of building too many links too fast.

    Max

    Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Max,

    Max, to be honest I gave up checking such things. All I know is that it is usually about a week before they have a real effect on rankings.

    BP do ping them all so they should index quick but just social bookmark them if you want to make sure. And yes, you can send a larger pack as they won’t all get picked up the same time. Or even another 40 pack in a week or two. Ask John the owner and he will use different sites for the new links too.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Blackthorne Reply:

    @Dave, I asked John for advice and he game me some really useful info.

    For example:

    1. 120 Links in one week is better than 40 links per week for 3 weeks. 120 Links per week is also better than 120 links per day.

    2. When doing 120 links, sending 30 to the frontpage and the 10 links to 9 deeplinks (posts) is a good way to distribute the links.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Dave Reply:

    @Blackthorne,

    Sounds good. He must have lots of experience of how to get the best ranking results. Backlinks Philippines is definitely a well run service. The larger packets definitely work amazingly well once the sites linked to settle down after an initial jump about.
